چکیده

INTRODUCTION Typical angiomyolipoma (AML) is a benign neoplasm, which consists of a mixture of smooth muscle, fat, abnormal blood vessels, and perivascular epithelioid cells, the latter of which have been described to be present in varying proportions. Recent reports have described renal masses comprised almost entirely of perivascular epithelioid cells and have designated them as “monotypic epithelioid angiomyolipomas (EAMLs)” or “renal epithelioid oxyphilic neoplasms”, which are potentially malignant. It has also been reported EAML sometimes exhibits aggressive growth, rupture, metastasis, or local recurrence. Here, we report a case of rapidly progressing EAML.

Malignant epithelioid angiomyolipoma of the kidney with pulmonary metastases and p53 gene mutation

Angiomyolipoma (AML) is a rare tumor mainly arising in the kidney. Here we report the case of a 55-year-old woman with malignant epithelioid angiomyolipoma with p53 gene mutation. After 7 years from radical nephrectomy of the left kidney, the patient developed multiple lung metastases that showed morphologic features overlapping those of the previously lesion, which was misdiagnosed as renal ce...

Malignant renal epithelioid angiomyolipoma: A case report and review of the literature

Malignant renal epithelioid angiomyolipoma (EAML) is rare, and currently there is no malignant criteria for its pathological diagnosis. In the present study, the case of a patient who suffered malignant renal EAML and underwent nephrectomy is reported. The histological patterns of the tumor were composed of sheets or nests of large polygonal epithelioid cells and thick-walled blood vessels, wit...

Malignant renal epithelioid angiomyolipoma associated with abdominopelvic hydatid cysts: a case report

INTRODUCTION The World Health Organization defines epithelioid angiomyolipoma as a potentially malignant mesenchymal neoplasm characterized by proliferation of predominantly epithelioid cells and as closely related to the triphasic (classic) angiomyolipoma. It can be benign, potentially aggressive or malignant. The pathologist's role is crucial in making a positive diagnosis, providing appropri...

Huge retroperitoneal epithelioid angiomyolipoma: A case report

Angiomyolipoma (AML) is a type of tumor in the perivascular epithelioid cell neoplasm (PEComa) family. Epithelioid angiomyolipoma (EAML), having malignant potential, is considered a rare variant of angiomyolipoma. The most common site of EAMLs is kidney, and extra-renal EAMLs are very uncommon, with liver being the most common site.1 Other locations including retroperitoneum, uterus, liver, lun...

Clinicopathologic features of renal epithelioid angiomyolipoma: report of one case and review of literatures.

Epithelioid angiomyolipoma (EAML) is a rare renal mesenchymal tumor with malignant potential and is frequently associated with tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC). As metastasis of the tumor cells occur early, EAML is considered a potentially malignant tumor type and intrigues further research on it. Under the microscope, we could find the tumor was composed of atypical polygonal cells sheet mixed...
